OCR (Optical Character Recognition)

Technology that extracts text from images or scanned documents.

What it means

OCR is required when a bank statement PDF is a scanned image rather than digitally generated text. Text-based PDFs can be converted directly to CSV/Excel; scanned PDFs need OCR first to recognize characters, and results vary with scan quality.
